Beer Festival

Hi All! hoped you all had a worthy Octoberfest.

For some reason this has been an incredibly busy month and needless to say, Uncle Malty here has been incredibly busy as well. In either case, me and the Mild Colonial have been very impressed with October so far and the highlight was definitely the Australian Beer festival, and let me tell you, the best and most exciting dudes to come out there are none other than New England Brewing and Neighbourhood from WA.

The IPAs from these two companies were phenomenal and were surprisingly light in terms of body and yet going dangerously towards the DIPA category.

Also from New England that was just incredible and memorable was the dark farmhouse. Now this is unlike any farmhouse/saison I have ever tried. First, and I was predicting that this had to be invented, the dark malts counterbalanced the tartness in most farmhouse/saisons. Second, it was an incredibly smooth drink that had dry finish. If you ever had Australian saisons, you would know that they can be quite tart and not to everyone’s liking. I do hope New England makes this dark farmhouse a mainstay because it was incredible.

Now Neighbourhood on the other hand are contenders for being Australia’s no.1 IPA. The Mild Colonial was having a few chats with em’ and they were incredibly cool, and paying homage to Feral (WA’s most celebrated brewer). Well, I can vouch for the fact that hands down, these guys get empirical points on the aesthetics scale for producing great beers.  Their red ale was very well balanced with a slight chocolatey taste to counter any sourness (i’m going with a theme here). Can’t wait for these guys to churn out some super stuff in Sydney. If you’re a distributor or a publican, get these guys on your taps FAST.

Well there you go folks! Sorry for the delay in getting this piece out.
